Fun in Chicago!

Emily, Ella, and I took the train at noon on Sunday for our whirlwind trip to Chicago! We had a great time. Here are some pictures.

Thanks to Bob and his Hyatt Reward points we had a beautiful, luxurious, terrace room with a view of Chicago's famous water tower.

As soon as we arrived at the hotel a storm came up so we watched the hail fall on our terrace. After the hailstorm quit we walked around the block and ate at Bistro 110 (Mike, do you know that restaurant?)--the food was kind of disappointing.

We walked around a bit and came back to the hotel. Ella and Emily went for a swim in the Hyatt's luxurious pool. Back to the room where I soaked in the amazing soaker tub and then to bed. The next morning we headed to Starbuck's for some breakfast (As impressive as the hotel was, they didn't offer free coffee and continental breakfast, and room service was awfully pricey.) During breakfast I was wishing I knew the location of Quigley Seminary. We walked out of Starbucks and looked left, and there it was. We walked 20 steps and found the statue of Bishop Quigley that my great grandfather carved around 100 years ago. That was pretty exciting for me. I've seen pictures of it, but have never seen it in person.

Our hotel was right across the street from "American Girl" where we did some birthday shopping for Ella and then had lunch. The lunch was very good and quite fun, even though a little weird watching all the dolls being catered to.

Fitting room at American Girl with a fun view:

We did a little more walking around and shopping on the Miracle Mile and then we went for a carriage ride with Steve (the horse):

After the ride we did some more walking and then went to the lounge at the top of the John Hancock and were awed by the views:

Then back to Union Station for our tuckered out train trip back to Ann Arbor. There were a few delays and we got home about 12:15 this morning. Yawwnnn!

What a quick but fun trip! Thanks for including me, Emily and Ella!

That sounds funtastic, especially about the statue. How did you get from Union Station to your hotel?

That's another story. Bob gave us directions to get to the el, two blocks from the station, but we must have gone the wrong direction. We walked and walked and didn't find it. Finally we hailed a cab. On the way back to Union Station, the bellman at the hotel whistled a cab for us and off we went. Much simpler! I felt a lot like the hoi polloi (spelling??) staying at that hotel. Every time we walked in or out of the hotel they were asking if we needed anything, etc. It was a little intimidating for a hic country girl like me.

Sounds like a great adventure. I'm sure Ella will have fond memories from that trip. How old is she?
